The Symphony Orchestra of India’s Autumn 2018 concerts will begin on September 4 in a programme conducted by Alexander Lazarev. One of Russia’s foremost conductors, Lazarev has previously been Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Bolshoi Theatre, amongst other positions with orchestras around the globe. The programme will feature violinist Nurit Stark in the rarely performed violin concerto by Ernest Bloch, alongside works by Wagner & Tchaikovsky.
On September 8, Lazarev will conduct a programme of Mussorgsky, Mozart, and Sibelius. This programme will feature less common solo instruments in Mozart’s concerto for flute & harp, performed by Katherine Bicknell and Daniela Iolkicheva.
Music Director Marat Bisengaliev will lead the concert on September 12 featuring Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5, considered one of the masterworks of 20th Century orchestral repertoire. The concert also features Dvo?ák’s beloved cello concerto, featuring cellist Sevak Avanesyan, first cellist of the Brussels Philharmonic.
Associate Music Director Zane Dalal closes the season on September 16. Pianist Alexei Volodin, acclaimed for his highly sensitive touch and technical brilliance, is in demand by orchestras at the highest level, and will join the SOI to perform Rachmaninoff’s second piano concerto. The programme also features works by Mozart & Stravinsky.
