Esteban Batallán started his musical studies at the age of 7 at the Municipal Music School in his town. He later studied trumpet with aMaestro Javier Viceiro, who has been instrumental throughout his career. In 1999 he was admitted into the School of Higher Musical Studies of Galicia where he obtained and in 2000 he placed first at the auditions for the Young National Spanish Orchestra (JONDE) where he played till 2003 as solo trumpet.
Esteban has received many awards through his career, including first prizes at the Juventudes Musicales de España 2001 (Young Spanish Musical Talents), the National Trumpet Competition “Yamaha-Xeno” 2002, the European International Young Musicians Competition in 2002, and the International Yamaha Competition in 2003. He also placed fourth in the 2006 International Maurice Andre Competition.

Highlights of his career include performances of Tomasi, Jolivet, and Telemann with the RTVE Symphony Orchestra, Brandenburg Cocnerto No. 2 with the Polish Symphony Orchestra and Ciudad de Granada Orchestra, Mozart with the Orchestra of Cordoba, Hummel and Haydn with the Vigo Philharmonic and Pontevedra Philharmonic, Shostakovich with the Frankfurt Concerto Grosso, Chulia and Haydn with the Orchestral Ensemble of Paris, Vivaldi for 2 trumpets with the JONDE, and the Venetian Carnival with the Vigo Symphonic Brass Band. He has also been involved with several ensembles including the Galician Band Federation, Galician Philharmonic Band, ‘Ars Metalls’ Metal Quintet, and the Young National Spanish Orchestra (JONDE).
Esteban also offers master classes throughout Spain and was invited to deliver a course on technique and performance in Albany by the Higher Academy of Arts in 2003. Since 2011, he has been an invited teacher for the Young National Orchestra of Spain (JONDE) and since 2014 principal teacher of the Andalusian Youth Orchestra. In 2002 he formed a duo with pianist Alejo Amoedo, with whom he has toured Spain, Albany, Germany, and other countries on several occasions, performing pieces from a vast repertoire including baroque, classical, romantic, and contemporary.
In 2003, Esteban was invited to audition for the solo trumpet position by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and in 2010 he was a finalist for the solo trumpet position in the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, where he was principal trumpet in the 2010-2011 season. Since 2010 is principal in the Royal Sevilla Symphony Orchestra and since 2015 is principal trumpet on contract with Teatro alla Scala and Filarmonica della Scala.
He is currently solo trumpet with the Ciudad de Granada Orchestra, a position he has held since 2002. Since 2001 he works as a soloist with agency “Orfeo”(Madrid), since 2008 with agency “ACM”(Granada) and since 2013 with agency drop-artist (Granda).
