HOLST: The Planets, Op. 32

The SOI Spring 2026 season opens with British maestro Martyn Brabbins – Chief Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of India, known for his expressive command and deep musical insight. The evening opens with Mussorgsky’s Prelude to Khovanshchina, a haunting and atmospheric depiction of dawn over the Moscow River. This is followed by Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1, a youthful yet bold work that marked the beginning of a new era in symphonic music. This launches the Beethoven Symphony Cycle of the SOI. The concert concludes with Holst’s iconic The Planets, a dazzling orchestral suite that takes listeners on a powerful journey through the astrological characters of the seven planets, from the ferocity of “Mars” to the ethereal mystery of “Neptune, which features a female offstage chorus which will be sung by Living Voices Mumbai.
